Ardennes

The name "Ardennes" meant in the Medieval Times, a place that men had deforested before planting vines, within an area that was to become a well-known vineyard, located on both sides of the river Ciron along the Garonne; it, thus, became the Graves and Sauternes vineyards between the XI th and XIII th centuries. At the turn of the XVI th century, the name "Ardennes" was mentioned in documents, the estate, then, used to belong to Montaigne's niece: Jeanne de Lestonnac. In the 1870s, "Ardennes" was owned by Mr. Dutauzin and quoted in the famous "Bordeaux et ses vins" by Ch. Cocks and Ed. Feret.
